Grooving Plane Kit
This kit is designed for beginners to make their first-hand plane. A grooving plane can look difficult, but if you break it down into smaller steps, most beginners can make one in a single afternoon.
The grooving plane kit is set up to make a groove 1/4” wide by 1/4” deep, 1/4” in from the surface. This is common for drawer bottoms or tongue-and-groove work.
In the kit, you will find:
Measured drawings
A block of Hard maple for the body
A block of Hard maple for the wedge
An unsharpened iron
We are also offering just the iron if you have your own wood. That comes with just the unsharpened iron and measured drawings.
The blocks of wood are cut to the general shape, and there is enough wood for two wedges. The iron is hardened O1 tool steel. It has been ground to shape but will need to be sharpened.
You can find a build video showing the whole process here: https://youtu.be/fiZvcLmeww0
Also, if you want to build along with me in person or online, you can find that here: https://planewellness.org/grooving-plane/. Everyone who takes the class will receive a kit with the class.
