Reed Frog Wedges
You can purchase the wedges in two different angles or as a pair.
50 Degree Wedge
The 50-degree wedge is designed to fit no. 4 or 5 Stanleys and can probably fit in most other brands, though we have not been able to test all of them. This wedge will allow you to plane with a higher angle and still use your chipbreaker without having to buy a whole new frog. The installation is fairly simple and can be done in a few minutes. We also include a set of longer screws as every casting is a bit different. These screws are long enough to fit all of them and can be adjusted to fit your Stanley perfectly. Here is a link to a video showing how to install the wedge into your plane: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emBSmYzj7uI&list=PLS6RUJT0uVFvgrBDXC68qn2k2NfA1Ecga&index=1&t=1s
55 Degree Wedge
The 55 degrees for the wedge is designed to fit no. 4 or 5 Stanleys and can probably fit in most other brands, though we have not been able to test all of them. This wedge will allow you to plane with a higher angle and still use your chipbreaker without having to buy a whole new frog. The installation is fairly simple and can be done in a few minutes. We also include a set of longer screws as every casting is a bit different. and a second set to connect the frog to the wedge. This is a bit more work to install than the 50-degree wedge but can provide almost scraping action with how high the iron gets. Wedge Kit
The Wedge Kit includes both the 50-degree and the 55-degree wedges and all of their screws and washers. Both wedges are designed to fit Stanleys and can probably fit in most other brands, though we have not been able to test all of them. This wedge will allow you to plane with a higher angle and still use your chipbreaker without having to buy a whole new frog. The installation is fairly simple and can be done in a few minutes. We also include a set of longer screws as every casting is a bit different. and a second set to connect the frog to the wedge. This will give you options to choose between easier pushing of the lower angle and the controlled cut of the higher angle. Note: these are cast parts and as such, they are not "perfectly flat" some are very close and some are a bit further off, but in the testing, we have done that has not been an issue at all due to the contact points in the plane. If you wish they can be easily filed flat in a matter of a few minutes.
These parts are made by REED Planes and distributed by Wood By Wright. Feel free to contact either of us at any time with your questions. James Wright: JamesWright@woodbywright.com Jeffrey Warshafsky: reedplanes@gmail.com
A bit about REED Planes: Reed Planes was developed from my frustrations of using Stanley planes and old tired Norris planes. My goal was to create a hand plane that would solve the shortcomings of these planes as well as a way for them to be adjustable due to wear over time. I have adapted many of my improvements for replacement parts that can easily modify a Stanley hand plane.
